Urologist Dr. Rodrigo Suarez-Ibarrola smiling in a mint-green polo shirt – MEDINO Vienna

Dr. Rodrigo Suarez-Ibarrola, BSc

Specialist in urology and andrology

Focus: urological screening, men’s health & family planning (vasectomy, foreskin surgery)

Languages: German, English, Spanish

About me

As a specialist in urology and andrology I accompany you through the whole spectrum of urology – from the annual screening examination to men’s health and family planning, including vasectomy and circumcision.

One particular focus is prevention: the four most common urological cancers – prostate, bladder, kidney and testicles – can be detected early during a screening examination. Equally important to me is the assessment and treatment of problems passing urine (voiding complaints), with medication as well as – where necessary – surgically, for example in benign prostate enlargement.

I also look after questions of men’s health and andrology as well as stone disease. I deepened my surgical expertise at Freiburg University Hospital and at the Medical University of Vienna, among others, complemented by diplomas in robot- and laparoscopy-assisted surgery (IRCAD / University of Strasbourg) and a focus on minimally invasive procedures.

As a researcher with more than 80 publications I also work on modern technologies in urology. Understandable, patient-centred care matters to me – I take my time and accompany you attentively along your way.

Frequently asked questions

What does Wahlarzt mean – and do I get the costs back?
MEDINO is a Wahlarzt practice, so there is no direct contract with the health insurance funds. You pay the fee yourself first and can then submit the fee note to your health insurance fund. Depending on the service, around 80 per cent of the corresponding public tariff is usually reimbursed.
How do I make an appointment?
You can make appointments conveniently online through the appointment booking on medino.at or by telephone on +43 1 226 5567.
Where is the practice?
The practice is located in the MEDINO Medical Centre, Auerspergstrasse 6, 1010 Vienna – centrally located and easy to reach by public transport.
Do I need a referral?
No. As a Wahlarzt practice we do not require a referral – you can make an appointment directly.
What should I bring to the first appointment?
Please bring photo identification and your e-card as well as – if you have them – previous findings, current laboratory values, a list of medication and any imaging (for example a CD from an MRI or CT scan).
How does a urological examination proceed?
As a rule the appointment begins with a detailed conversation (history), followed by a physical examination and an ultrasound examination. Where needed, urine and blood tests or further diagnostics are added.
Are urological screening examinations offered?
Yes. Screening examinations are an important part of urological care and are offered in the practice.
Can I get an appointment at short notice?
As a Wahlarzt practice we deliberately take our time and as a rule offer short waiting times and flexible scheduling.
Which areas does Dr. Suarez-Ibarrola cover?
The whole spectrum of urology: from the annual screening and cancer screening examination through men's health and family planning (including vasectomy and foreskin surgery) to problems passing urine, benign prostate enlargement, stone disease, uro-oncology, andrology and paediatric urology.
Does Dr. Suarez-Ibarrola offer vasectomy, circumcision and frenulotomy?
Yes, these are particular focuses. Alongside vasectomy, circumcision and frenulotomy – the treatment of a shortened foreskin band (frenulum) – are also carried out as outpatient procedures. We are happy to advise you beforehand in detail on the procedure and the options.
Which urological cancer screening makes sense?
The four most common urological cancers – prostate, bladder, kidney and testicles – can be detected early during a screening examination. Regular screening is therefore expressly recommended.
Which languages does Dr. Suarez-Ibarrola speak?
Dr. Suarez-Ibarrola speaks German, English and Spanish.
Does Dr. Suarez-Ibarrola have scientific experience?
Yes. He has published more than 80 scientific papers (h-index 22) and researches minimally invasive urology, modern laser procedures and artificial intelligence in diagnostics, among other topics. He trained at Freiburg University Hospital and at the Medical University of Vienna, among others, complemented by IRCAD diplomas in robot- and laparoscopy-assisted surgery.
Do you also treat urological complaints in children (paediatric urology)?
Yes. Paediatric urology includes bedwetting, tight foreskin (phimosis) and undescended testicle, among others. We assess these complaints and treat them in a child-appropriate way.
