The first months

When everything is new: short distances in the first months

The time after birth brings many small questions and sometimes a big one. With us, paediatrics, midwives and nutritional counselling are located in the same building.

  • Follow-up after premature birth – special field of OÄ Dr. Czaba-Hnizdo
  • Developmental assessment from birth
  • Vaccinations according to the Austrian immunisation schedule
  • Support from midwives, also after the birth
  • Nutritional counselling by a dietitian

Development and therapy

When development raises questions: assessment and therapy in-house

Speaking, grasping, walking, concentrating: if something develops differently than expected, the first step is a developmental assessment. It shows whether support is needed – and which kind. At MEDINO, OÄ Dr. Christine Czaba-Hnizdo covers this from the paediatric side and Mag. Doris Sonnlechner from the psychological side.

And if therapy follows, no search for a place begins afterwards. It is in the same building.

  • Developmental assessment from birth
  • Speech therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Physiotherapy with a focus on children, also craniosacral
  • Clinical psychology
  • Dietetics and nutritional counselling

Mental health

ADHD, autism, anxiety: questions that occupy parents for a long time

Child and adolescent psychiatry is in the building, with its own appointment booking. Two specialists in child and adolescent psychiatry and one clinical psychologist see patients at MEDINO – in the same building as paediatrics, through the same booking system.

Psychosomatic complaints, family and parental counselling as well as mental health around pregnancy and birth are also part of this. A complete overview is given on the page Psychiatry and Psychology.

When testing is necessary

Clinical psychological testing is not currently offered here – for example as part of an ADHD assessment – ourselves. But you are not left on your own with it: Dr. Klier works with psychologists she knows and who have appointments available at short notice. You receive this recommendation during the consultation, with names and contact details. The findings and further treatment then come back together at the practice.

The testing is planned in-house in future.

Allergy, airways, skin

Allergy and airways: find the cause instead of trying one thing after another

Recurring cough, a constantly running nose, itchy skin: much of this has a cause that can be named. Allergological, pulmonological and immunological questions are assessed, and what the findings mean for everyday life is discussed with you.

  • Allergological assessment
  • Pulmonology – airways and suspected asthma
  • Immunology
  • First consultation for atopic dermatitis

Teen medicine

For the years when nobody wants to go „to the paediatrician“ any more

Between paediatrics and adult medicine there is a gap. That gap is filled by a dedicated service for adolescents – confidential and, if wished, without parents in the room.

Hours that fit family life

Appointments until 8 pm during the week and on Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm.

The doctors and therapists at MEDINO are self-employed. The treatment contract is concluded with the treating person in each case.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know

My child has a fever – when should I come?

As a rule of thumb: in infants under three months always, as soon as a fever occurs. In older children, if the fever lasts longer than three days, if your child seems unusually listless, drinks poorly, has breathing difficulties or develops a rash.

If you are unsure, call us. This assessment over the phone costs nothing and is often quicker than any research.

How quickly do we get an acute appointment?

Acute concerns can often be scheduled on the same day. Call us on +43 1 226 5567 or see the free acute appointments directly in the online booking.

Do you carry out all Eltern-Kind-Pass examinations?

Yes, the paediatric examinations of the Eltern-Kind-Pass (the Austrian parent-child health record) are carried out in-house, including hip and cranial ultrasound. The internal medicine examination for the mother is also available in-house – so you do not need a second appointment somewhere else.

Our child was born prematurely. Do you provide care for that?

Yes. OÄ Dr. Christine Czaba-Hnizdo is a Specialist in Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine with a specialisation in neonatology and paediatric intensive care. Follow-up after a premature birth is one of her focus areas.

My child keeps having a cough or a skin rash. What can you assess?

Allergological, pulmonological and immunological questions are assessed – from recurring bronchitis and suspected asthma to atopic dermatitis. The aim is to find the trigger instead of treating symptoms over and over again.

What exactly is teen medicine?

A dedicated service for adolescents that brings together four areas: mental health, a sexual health consultation, the first gynaecological appointment and hormonal questions. Adolescents can come to the consultation on their own if they wish.

What is paediatric nephrology – and when do we need it?

It is about the kidneys and urinary tract in children: recurring urinary tract infections, abnormal blood or urine values, congenital malformations, high blood pressure in childhood. Priv. Doz. (MHH) DDr. Nima Memaran specialises in this. He is also a certified trainer in paediatric sonography.

Can my daughter come to her first gynaecological appointment on her own?

The first appointment is usually a conversation only, without an examination. Whether you come along or your daughter goes on her own is something you decide together – both are possible here. For minors, the legal rules on consent apply; this is discussed openly at the appointment.

Do you carry out ADHD diagnostics? And what about autism?

The psychiatric diagnosis and treatment of ADHD is carried out by Univ. Prof. Priv. Doz. Dr. Claudia Klier – in children, adolescents and adults.

The clinical psychological testing that often goes with it takes place outside our building. Dr. Klier will recommend psychologists she works with and who have appointments available at short notice; the findings and further treatment then come back together at the practice. The testing is planned in-house in future.

For the autism spectrum, medication-based treatment is provided at the practice where a diagnosis already exists. The diagnostic assessment is not offered here; a referral to a suitable place is made at the appointment.

Will my child also receive therapy with you, or only diagnostics?

Both. Speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy with a focus on children and clinical psychology are in the same building. What belongs together therefore takes place in one place – and those involved can exchange information within the limits of their duty of confidentiality and with your consent.

How does the first appointment work?

You book online or by phone, are called in at the agreed time and have a detailed consultation. The examination follows, and at the end the findings are explained in plain language and the next steps are discussed. More time is deliberately set aside for the first appointment.

What should I bring to the appointment?

The Eltern-Kind-Pass, the e-card, the vaccination record and – if available – reports from previous treatment. For infants, additionally everything you have with you anyway: changing things, a bottle, a familiar toy.

Can we come at the weekend as well?

The center is open on Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm. During the week we are open on Mondays until 6 pm and from Tuesday to Friday until 8 pm – so also after kindergarten, school and work. On public holidays, doctors and therapists at the MEDINO Medical Centre often offer on-call services; you can find out about this by phone.

Will we have to sit in the waiting room for a long time?

Fixed appointments, generously planned on purpose. A dedicated children's area with a play house is part of that – so if it does take longer, the waiting time is not lost time for your child.

What does the appointment cost – and what does the health insurance fund pay back?

MEDINO is a Wahlarzt practice (a doctor outside the public insurance contract system). After the appointment you receive an invoice that you can submit to your health insurance fund. What is reimbursed is decided by the fund. We are happy to tell you the current fees in advance by phone or by e-mail to servus@medino.at.

Depending on the contract, private supplementary insurance covers a larger share.
