About me

From mid-September 2026 I will be holding consultations at the MEDINO Medical Centre. I am a specialist in general surgery and a consultant at Klinik Donaustadt. There I have specialised in robot-assisted surgery and work in particular on colorectal surgery as well as – in my head of department’s team – on modern procedures for peritoneal carcinomatosis.

At MEDINO Onko I look after oncological colorectal surgery and provide medical second opinions on visceral oncological conditions – for more certainty in important treatment decisions. My second area of focus is hernia surgery.

Alongside this I am researching emergency surgery and translational surgical research as part of my doctoral studies at the Medical University of Graz.

Frequently asked questions

What does robot-assisted surgery mean?
With this technique the surgeon controls the instruments from a console. The movements are transferred to scale, and the view is magnified and three-dimensional. This allows very precise work through small access points.
Do you also treat inguinal and other hernias?
Yes, hernia surgery is Dr. Frieders-Justin's second area of focus – including robot-assisted techniques. The consultation for this is available at MEDINO.
What is a port (Port-a-Cath) used for?
A port is a small access point to the venous system placed under the skin. During longer oncological therapy it avoids repeated cannulation and makes administering medication more reliable.
Where does the operation take place?
MEDINO is where the consultation happens: discussing findings, the second opinion and planning the next steps. The operation itself takes place at the hospital where Dr. Frieders-Justin works.
What is a medical second opinion – and when is it useful?
A second opinion independently reviews a diagnosis that has already been made and the treatment path proposed. It is particularly useful before major operations and for visceral oncological conditions where several routes are possible. Please bring all existing findings and images.
How do I make an appointment?

Do I need a referral?
No. As a private practice you can book an appointment without a referral. Please bring any existing findings with you; that avoids repeat examinations.
What should I bring to the first appointment?
All existing findings: doctors' letters, histology, laboratory results and imaging (CT, MRI, ultrasound), ideally on CD or USB stick. Also a list of your medication and your e-card.
Where is the practice?
The practice is at the MEDINO Medical Centre, Auerspergstrasse 6, 1010 Vienna – two minutes' walk from the Rathaus, with the U2 Rathaus and several tram lines close by.
Which languages does Dr. Frieders-Justin speak?
German, English and Spanish.
What does „Wahlarzt" mean – and will I get the costs back?
MEDINO is a private practice (Wahlarztordination), so there is no direct contract with the statutory health insurers. You pay the fee yourself and can then submit the invoice to your insurer. What is reimbursed is decided by the fund.
