About me

My name is Anastasia Pantazidou and I come from Thessaloniki in Greece. After my medical degree (MD/MBBS) in Greece I moved to the United Kingdom in 2004 and have been in paediatrics ever since. I completed my general paediatric training in Melbourne, Australia (2007–2011) and returned to England in 2011 for my subspecialty training in neurodevelopment and neurodisability, which I finished in 2019. A further subspecialisation in sleep medicine in children with neurodevelopmental disorders followed in 2023.

For several years I was the lead paediatrician for autism services in the south-west of England. Since 2022 I have lived in Vienna with my husband and our two children, and I have been at the psychosomatics unit of the AKH since then.

I look forward to bringing my experience to children with special conditions and to giving them the support they need.

Frequently asked questions

Who are the appointments for?
Children and adolescents – with a developmental concern, with an existing diagnosis, or simply with a question about their development. Parents are welcome to come with their own observations.
What happens at a developmental assessment?
The appointment is used to look at how a child is developing: movement, language, play, learning and behaviour, together with the history the parents bring. What follows from it is discussed at the appointment.
How does an assessment for autism spectrum disorder work?
Established international assessment instruments are used, together with information from the family and, where available, from nursery or school. The assessment usually takes more than one appointment. A written report follows.
What does sleep medicine mean in this context?
Sleep problems are common in children with neurodevelopmental conditions and are often treatable. The appointment looks at the sleep history, the daily routine and possible medical causes.
Will there be a diagnosis at the first appointment?
Not as a rule. Developmental questions are rarely answered in a single appointment; several appointments and information from other settings are usually needed. You will be told at the appointment what the next step is.

Do I need a referral?
No. As a private practice you can book an appointment without a referral. Please bring any existing reports with you; that avoids repeat assessments.
What should we bring to the first appointment?
Any existing reports and letters, previous assessments, the parent-child booklet (Eltern-Kind-Pass), reports or observations from nursery or school, a list of any medication, and the e-card.
Where is the practice?
The practice is at the MEDINO Medical Centre, Auerspergstrasse 6, 1010 Vienna – two minutes' walk from the Rathaus, with the U2 Rathaus and several tram lines close by.
Which languages does Dr. Pantazidou speak?
English, German and Greek. Consultations are usually held in English or German.
What does „Wahlarzt" mean – and what happens with the costs?
The doctors and therapists at MEDINO are self-employed; the doctors practise as Wahlärztinnen and Wahlärzte, that is outside the statutory insurance contracts. After the appointment you receive an invoice to submit to your health insurer. What is reimbursed is decided by the insurer. If you also hold supplementary insurance, you can submit the invoice there as well; whether a refund is made, and how much, depends on your policy. The treatment contract is concluded with the treating doctor.
